Similar in its general structure to the Fairchild C-82, the Noratlas
was, during more of twenty years, the plane of European military
transportation the most widespread. Its prototype flew for the first
time on 27th November 1950.

The basis version wears the Nord denomination 2501; besides 211 planes
constructed for the French Armee de l'Air, 200 other machines
approximately were realized which, from 1958, entered in service in
detachments of transportation corps of the German Luftwaffe.
In Germany, the Nord Flugzeugbau GmbH constructed this machine under
license.

From the Nord 2501 derived several other versions, powered all thanks
the adoption of a couple of turbojet Turbomeca Marbor‚ placed to
extremities of the wings (North 2502 and North 2504).

The main characteristics of the Noratlas are following:

Wing span: 32,50 m
Length: 21,96 m
Height: 6,00 m
Supporting surface: 101,20 mý
Way of the gear: 7,76 m
Length of the locker: 9,90 m
Volume of the locker: 51,00 m3
Empty weight: 13.300 kg
Full weight: 20.600 kg
Max weight: 22.000 kg
Max speed at 1.500 m: 405 km / h
Cruise speed at 1.500 m: 320 km / h
Takeoff distance: 810 m
Landing distance: 420 m
Climb speed: 6 m / s
Ceiling: 7.100 m

Engines: 2 SNECMA-BRISTOL Hercules 758 / 759 of 2 x 2.040 CV
with 4 blades reversible Rotol propellers.

The "Noratlas" for Flight Simulator:
-------------------- -----------------

Two versions of the Noratlas have been reproduced.

A Nord 2501 of the French Armee de l'Air - plane number 142 - coded 63-VP
belonging to 1 / 63 "Vercors" in the decoration that it carried in
September 1984.

A Nord 2501 D of the Luftwaffe Transportgeschwader LTG 62 coded
53+51 in its decoration of January 1971.

Its flight model calls next comments:
- for the takeoff, lower two notches of flaps and to position the trim
slightly to climb
- the Vr is approximately 105 kts
- retract the gear and a notch of flaps as soon as the vario is
positive - the plane has to be correctly compensated to the trim -
propellers are reversible: the braking effect can be obtained by
activating the spoilers key.
